We advise businesses, institutions and individuals on all forms of direct and indirect investment into UK real estate (both commercial and residential). We have significant experience advising both UK based and non-UK resident investors, from structuring the investment to its implementation.
We continue to provide tax advice to both onshore and offshore property developers of UK real estate, from multi-billion pound schemes, mixed-use schemes to high value residential developments for high net worth individuals. We have particular expertise in the Stamp Duty Land Tax and VAT issues that commonly arise.
We work closely with our Funds and Financial Services team to ensure that both UK specific and multi-jurisdictional real estate funds are structured in a manner that is suitable for investors.
We provide the tax support to our leading Real Estate Finance group, acting for both lenders and borrowers.
- Advising Capital and Counties PLC (Capco) in relation to the property tax aspects of their £8 billion Earls Court redevelopment project.
- Advising Capital and Counties CG Limited (Part of Capital and Counties PLC) in relation to their Covent Garden portfolio with a remit focused on acquisition and asset management, assisting Capco in its tenant upgrade strategy which includes the provision of tax consultancy advice to Capco.
- Real Estate and Corporate advised the joint venture between William Pears Group and LaSalle Investment Management on the sale of The Notting Hill Estate to Frogmore for £219.3 million, which included tax support. The Notting Hill Estate is situated along Notting Hill Gate and Kensington Church Street in West London and is comprised primarily of of prime retail shops and restaurants along with office accommodation, a cinema and car parking spaces
- Acting for Investec on the following loan facility and financing deals facilitating developments worth over £1billion, including providing tax consultancy advice. Advising on the facility for the acquisition of the £750m development project, the 'Stage' in Shoreditch. The new scheme is expected to include a 40-storey residential tower, comprising 385 homes, two office buildings totalling 250,000 sq. ft., and 50,000 sq. ft. of retail space. Also advising on a loan facility to finance a £370 million development, 'Islington Square,' a 4.5 acre mixed-use development scheme.
