Belt and Road Disputes

"一带一路" 倡议中的法律纷争

China's Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) is, by some estimates, one of the largest infrastructure and investment projects in history, covering more than 70 countries, 65 per cent of the world’s population and one-third of the world’s GDP (source: EBRD). Over 150 countries and organisations have signed agreements with the People's Republic of China on the joint implementation of the Belt & Road Initiative to date.

Investments thus far have largely involved infrastructure connectivity, energy & mining, transport & telecommunications networks and real estate. Whilst potentially high value, projects that span countries with widely varied legal, regulatory and political environments are prone to risk. Knowing how to navigate the cross-border structures that allow a positive return on investment is vital.

We are well placed to deal with any issues that may occur. We have one of the largest and most comprehensive Dispute Resolution offerings in London and have strong regional relationships with best-in-class disputes lawyers in the different jurisdictions along the BRI routes.

We focus on complex disputes, investigations and cross-border injunctions and we have the largest dedicated group of international injunction specialists in the UK. We act as both counsel and arbitrators, involving all of the major arbitral institutions. We have expertise in both civil and criminal arenas, handling cases involving corruption, fraud, money laundering and contentious regulatory matters.

We are a London firm with an international outlook. Our team of more than 220 litigators conducts cases in more than 70 countries. Around 70% of our instructions originate from international clients and a significant proportion of the work is at least partly conducted outside the UK. Across the firm, we have specific expertise in China, Central Asia & Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
