Project Disputes

Case studies

Large projects are complex to set up and even harder to run. They are long term commitments, involving multiple parties, and requiring significant financial and time investment and complex allocations and hedging of risk.

As a result, disputes will invariably arise, leading to delays, cost overruns, legal battles, strained stakeholder relationships, reputational damage, and potential project cancellations.

Our case studies show our expertise in managing these issues for our clients to protect their interests, ensure swift resolution and minimal disruption.

Energy project

We are advising an infrastructure developer on a dispute that has arisen in relation to a multi-billion US dollar hydrocarbon project in Africa. Our client's claim is for hundreds of millions of US dollars. This project holds significant regional importance and is closely connected to other ongoing upstream and mid-stream initiatives involving the government, the national oil company, and major global energy firms.

IT project

Our client was the systems integrator on a large IT, finance and HR transformation project for a public sector client. The project was complex, and our client's successful delivery was dependent on a number of third parties – the customer's executive team, its IT delivery team, its professional advisors, customer selected sub-contractors, sub-contractors selected by our client, and hardware and software vendors. Delivery timescales were tight and driven by customer requirements to complete work within a financial year.

Construction project

We are representing a US owned energy company in relation to an LPG-fuelled combined cycle power generation plant in west Africa. The project is the first of its kind to be undertaken in Africa. Our client is the employer under an EPC Contract, with a Greek company being the EPC Contractor and equipment provided by a multi-national engineering company. The project has been subject to considerable delays and failures in the equipment supplied. Our client sought to recover liquidated damages for the delays, leading to a dispute between the parties.
