In conversation with Nemone Lethbridge

DateTimeGMTIn-Person

Nemone Lethbridge, one of Britain's first female barristers, will share stories from her autobiography about her remarkable life.

Born in India in 1932 to a family steeped in military tradition, Nemone’s journey took her from Tudor Hall School to Somerville College, Oxford, where she was one of just two women in her year to study law. Told by her tutor that a woman at the Bar was “ludicrous”, Nemone proved them wrong, being called in 1956 as one of the very few women to do so at the time.

Her path was anything but easy. Work was scarce, and opportunities were few. By a twist of fate, Nemone became counsel of choice for the infamous Kray Twins, holding the role for seven years. Her personal life was equally remarkable—her marriage to Jimmy O’Connor, a former death row inmate turned celebrated writer, shocked the establishment and led to Nemone being shunned by the Bar for nearly two decades.

Join us to hear Nemone's story of resilience, defiance and a trailblazing spirit - an inspiration to anyone who dares to challenge convention.
