Thousands of couples separated or filed for divorce last month, as the strain of Christmas took its toll of families. Despite the stress of a break-up, parents must now make important decisions about how maintenance payments will be made.
David Lister, of Mishcon de Reya, the law firm, says: “If the amount of child maintenance is disputed, it is unlikely that a judge would award anything higher than the CSA awards, ie, 15 per cent of income for one child. That tends to be the yardstick.”
