Melissa Lesson, Partner in the Family team, has been featured in The Dura Society Blog on Pre-Nuptial Agreements.
In the article, Melissa has shared her experience on the importance of pre-nuptial agreements and put together her top tips on entering into one of them: “Whilst in many countries, they are a cultural 'norm', or automatically woven into the pre-requisites for getting married, in England and Wales there remains a tendency to shy away from them in the main, to not wish to discuss the possibility of one, let alone enter into one. Depending on how the topic is broached, or how the negotiations are conducted, they can be the cause of considerable pre-wedding tension and upset, and in some cases, prevent the wedding from going ahead at all. They do, however, remain the best protection available against the potential loss of half (in some cases more) of a person's wealth, because whilst not formally binding, if properly entered into the Court can, and increasingly does, hold parties to the agreement."
