The value of cryptocurrency has always been volatile, but in early 2022 the market underwent a "crypto-winter" which saw huge losses in the value of the main cryptocurrencies, and triggered the collapse of various stablecoins, exchanges and other crypto-industry players.
Some have seen this as an opportunity to "buy the dip" and invest, but the industry is still largely unregulated, meaning many businesses lack consumer safeguards. Equally, the industry is still rife with fraud, fake investments and scams. While it is likely that only serious regulation can help prevent a replay of the current situation, many investors are still unaware of the risks of investing.
