Sana Safai is an Afghan broadcast journalist, currently working for the BBC World Service.
In September, Sana released the radio documentary, “Afghanistan and Me” where she told the story of how her own life has been intertwined with the fate of her country. She tells of what it was like to survive as a child in a country caught between the crosshairs of geopolitical conflict facing personal tragedy, of surviving religious fundamentalism, and of growing up in a country without music or books.
In this session, Sana will reflect on her experiences, including how she eventually managed to find security in the UK away from the conflict in Helmand, and discuss the current turmoil in Afghanistan.
