Damages claims for mass data breaches: UK and european perspectives

Posted on 21 May 2021

Mishcon de Reya will be joining our colleagues at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL), to discuss Damages Claims for Mass Data Breaches: UK and European Perspectives

In light of the recent hearing before the UK Supreme Court in the case of Lloyd v Google, this event will look at the future of data protection damages claims in the UK, but also look across the Channel, in order to assess the developing European case law. Experts will consider a range of issues including the evolving substantive law, procedural difficulties and funding considerations, cross-border questions and approaches to the assessment of harm for breaches of data protection and quantification of damages.

The discussion, chaired by Anya Proops QC, 11 KBW, will see Partner Adam Rose join:

  • Prof. Maria José Azar-Baud, Université de Paris Sud; French avocat
  • Prof. Ianika Tzankova, Tilburg University Netherlands & Birkway Law Firm Amsterdam
  • Dr. Vanessa Wettner, WilmerHale Frankfurt

This event is convened by Prof. Duncan Fairgrieve, Senior Research Fellow in Comparative Law & Director of the Product Liability Forum, BIICL, and Vincent Smith, Visiting Fellow, BIICL and Assistant Professor, ESCP Europe.

The event takes place online, on 8 June 2021, 17.00 – 18.00 UK time.

This event is free to attend but pre-registration is required.
