Mishcon de Reya's Insurance Disputes team has won the 2022 'Insurance Law Award' at the annual National Insurance Awards, which celebrates excellence in the sector.
In winning the award, the team was recognised for the great results achieved for its clients on the FCA's test case, after it successfully represented hundreds of policyholders who were denied business interruption cover by their Insurers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2020, Mishcon de Reya was the only law firm granted permission to intervene, on behalf of the Hiscox Action Group and the Hospitality Insurance Group Action, in the FCA's business interruption test case. It successfully represented hundreds of small-and-medium-sized firms denied business interruption cover during the pandemic in the Divisional Court, and subsequent appeals in the Supreme Court.
The firm's insurance team continues to provide advice and assistance to affected firms, and is acting for the restaurant and bar operator, Various Eateries in its business interruption case against Allianz, which will be heard by the Commercial Court in July 2022.
