Charity Gemini Untwined has announced its sixth successful separation surgery of craniopagus conjoined twins, which took place in Rio de Janeiro.
The twin boys, Bernado and Arthur, were conjoined at the head, with fused brains and represented the team's most challenging case to date.
Led by UK neurosurgeon and Gemini Untwined co-founder Mr Noor ul Owase Jeelani, alongside Dr Gabriel Mufarrej, Head of Paediatric Surgery at Instituto Estadual do Cérebro Paulo Niemeyer, the separation involved nearly 100 medical staff and seven separate surgeries.
Gemini Untwined is the world’s only charity dedicated to combining surgical expertise, pioneering research and education in the field.
Mishcon de Reya is proud to provide pro bono support to Gemini Untwined, through Partner Kamal Rahman, to help conjoined twins access lifechanging surgery and give them the best possible chance at healthy and independent lives.
