Tom is a Partner in the Emerging Companies team within the Corporate department.
Tom has a broad practice, advising technology companies on intellectual property, commercial agreements, share option plans and funding transactions.
His industry background gives him a strong commercial slant in his advice and he is considered by many clients as their “in house lawyer”.
Encompassing a broad based background, Tom specialises in taking technology companies from start-up to trade sale or IPO, particularly concentrating on protecting and exploiting intellectual property to create value.
He is also involved in work for Universities, advising on IT procurement, technology transfer, spin out companies, research team transfers between institutions, joint ventures with industry and sponsored or embedded laboratories.
- Tom's first degree was in Cybernetics and Control engineering and he worked in industry prior to retraining as a lawyer, primarily designing and implementing automation systems for production lines.
- After retraining in law, Tom has acted for a wide range of technology businesses.
- Tom's wider business experience extends to board appointments, either as company secretary but occasionally as a non-executive director.
