Jonothan is an Associate in the Competition team in the Firm's Dispute Resolution department.

He acts for claimants and defendants across a range of commercial disputes and has particular experience in UK and EU competition damages cases, including representing clients in claims relating to all kinds of anti-competitive agreements and cartel activity. He also has experience of general financial and banking litigation.

Key Experience

  • Advising Microsoft in relation to its claim against various manufacturers of lithium ion batteries in the UK High Court for breach of EU and various domestic competition laws
  • Lead Associate advising John Lewis Plc in relation to its claims against MasterCard and Visa in the UK High Court that the payment card schemes illegally fixed the default multilateral interchange fee between issuing and acquiring banks
  • Advising Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd in relation to its successful claim against MasterCard in the UK High Court and Competition Appeal Tribunal that MasterCard illegally fixed the default multilateral interchange fee between issuing and acquiring banks. This was the lead case on interchange fees in the UK. The Competition Appeal Tribunal awarded Sainsbury's £68.5m in its recent judgment.
  • Acting for a private investment vehicle in its high value defence and counterclaim against a global bank in relation to the mismanagement of foreign exchange positions and resulting margin calls.
  • Assisting a major bank with an investigation into the possible manipulation of the foreign exchange market by their desk traders.
