The Things That Matter

Editor's note

Shona Coffer

In this issue, we explore the evolving landscape of private wealth and the complex challenges facing families, founders and their advisers. Drawing on contributions from our Connector Partners across the firm, linking teams from the London, Oxford and Cambridge offices, and initiatives including the Mishcon Academy, we examine the rapid adoption of AI by family offices and the risks it brings, alongside the need for strong governance and safeguards. We also look at the pressures of the “Great Wealth Transfer” on family businesses, the importance of effective succession planning, and the potential impact of proposed reforms to the law of financial remedy on managing wealth on divorce.

We reflect on the personal dimensions of wealth planning, including how divorce and separation affect wills and asset structures, and highlight Cambridge as a leading innovation hub where traditional wealth and emerging founders intersect. Finally, we consider how we equip our lawyers to navigate these issues through our Mishcon Academy, alongside the broader cultural context illustrated by Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg’s public artwork at Oxford North.
