Welcome to the September 2026 edition of Mishcon & The World. It has been a characteristically busy quarter, and this issue reflects the breadth of what our teams have been working on across borders and practice areas.
Employment law continues to dominate the regulatory agenda. From 1 October, the UK’s right-to-work regime expands significantly, extending compliance obligations beyond traditional employees to cover contractors, agency workers, platform-based workers and complex supply chains. If you have not already reviewed your processes, our detailed guide in this edition is essential reading. Elsewhere, Victoria in Australia is debating a statutory right to work from home, a development with real implications for employers managing international workforces.
AI is another thread running through this issue. From protecting your reputation in an era of synthetic content to the EU’s new transparency rules for advertising, the legal landscape around AI is evolving fast. We also feature a video on leading with AI, exploring how organisations can capture the opportunity while managing the risk.
We have recently announced that Miriam Carrión Benítez has joined the firm as a Partner to Co-Head of the Education Sector Group. Miriam is a respected equality and human rights barrister, and an expert in all aspects of Education law. She has advised leaders across the education sector in complex matters such as complex governance matters; establishment of a foreign university in the England; investigations into alleged antisemitism; culture reviews showing discriminatory practices; illegal schools; and international safeguarding due diligence in school transactions, inter alia. Miriam will strengthen the Firm's legal support services for the education sector both in the UK and internationally, working with a Firm-wide team to guide education providers with strategic advice on growth, acquisitions, governance, and international expansion.
On the international front, our Hong Kong office hosted a post-summer reception in September, welcoming clients and contacts alongside visiting Partners Charlie Sosna and Emilia Piskorz. Mark Davis, who leads our Dispute Resolution practice there and our new Partner Robert Rhoda will be at the HK Arbitration week in a couple of weeks. And our Employment department has once again been recognised in the IEL Elite guide for 2026, reflecting the team’s strength in cross-border advisory, disputes and transactional work.
The rise of Brazilian collectors on the global stage, how they think about art, and why Brazilian and Latin American art is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Our associate Pedro Vasques-Milhinhos met with Joao Paulo Siqueira Lopes: an art advisor, curator and entrepreneur and former gallery director at Lisson Gallery in London.
