The eyes of the world have been on the United Kingdom – first, we saw a change of Government, when Boris Johnson was replaced by Liz Truss, on Tuesday, 6 September, and then less than two days later, on the Thursday, Queen Elizabeth II died. It has been reported that her funeral, 10 days later, was the world's biggest ever TV event. Certainly, the hundred or so world leaders who came to London for the funeral service in Westminster Abbey must have been the largest such gathering ever. And in that way that Britain does, the procession, the pageant, the marching soldiers and pipes, horns and drums, were of a kind that nowhere else in the world seems to do.

Overseas entities owning UK property: act now to avoid missing 31 January deadline

The UK's "Register of Overseas Entities" launched on 1 August 2022. In the Government's words, the rationale for the new register is to require "anonymous foreign owners of UK property to reveal their real identities to ensure criminals cannot hide behind secretive chains of shell companies, setting a global standard for transparency."


UK Government launches sovereign immunity consultation

The principle of sovereign immunity – that one sovereign state should not seek to impose its law on another sovereign state – is an established part of international law. Historically, sovereign immunity has meant that the UK has not sought to tax income and gains arising from UK real estate investments held by other countries.

Congratulations to Managing Partner of Mishcon Singapore and Head of Asia, Tahirah Ara, who has been formally recognised as an INSOL Fellow. Tahirah completed the INSOL International Global Insolvency Practice Course (GIPC) 2021/2022, an advanced educational qualification focusing on international insolvency.
