Alexander is a Managing Associate in Mishcon Private and Chief Executive of Stop Ivory.

He is primarily a litigator, specialising in complex multi-jurisdictional disputes, international arbitration and defamation. He also advises private individuals, corporate and not-for-profit clients, focusing on the resolution of complex private and commercial disputes.

Alexander has particular experience working with high net worth families. He also has significant experience assisting investors and the not-for-profit sector engaged in sub-Saharan Africa in relation to operational and reputation issues, including environmental matters, oil, gas and mining.

As an experienced litigator, Alexander is currently involved in numerous proceedings at the High Court, and has particular experience of proceedings of the Courts in Malawi, Kenya and India. He has represented clients before the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and appeared in conciliation hearings.

As CEO of Stop Ivory, Alexander heads a leading not-for-profit project to address the illegal international ivory trade and the slaughter of elephants across Africa, through the delivery of the African-led Elephant Protection Initiative.  This important objective involves high-level legal, policy and political work as well as management of an international team undertaking front-line work across Africa and wider afield with partners.

Alexander is a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and a trustee of Tusk Trust.

Key experience

Litigation

  • Acting for a senior member of a family, in a complex and high value family and trust dispute being litigated in three separate jurisdictions namely in the English High Court, the Amsterdam Commercial Court and in the High Court of Bermuda.
  • Representing private individuals accused of breach of privacy, defamation and blackmail.
  • Representing a large multi-national, bringing a series of claims addressing attacks on its environmental and social record.
  • Acting on behalf of a multinational oil and gas company in relation to a joint venture dispute over a multi-million dollar concession in the Mediterranean.

Arbitration

  • Defending a claim arising from a west-African energy supply contract before the London Court of International Arbitration.
  • Representing a US company against an African state in bringing Conciliation proceedings under the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID)

Advisory

  • Advising on the restructuring of a family estate and the establishment of a Private Office.
  • Advising on the establishment of a foundation for a large multinational corporate.
