If the new Labour Government can achieve and sustain the economic growth and stability it promises, there will be increased demand for recruitment services. But what else does Labour intend to do that may benefit the sector?

Labour's manifesto commits to implementing in full the proposals set out in its policy document 'Labour's Plan To Make Work Pay: Delivering A New Deal For Working People'.

The Information Commissioner's Office ("ICO") has issued a reprimand to a recruitment company for infringements of Article 5(1)(f) and 32(1)(b) of the UK GDPR. The action was taken because the company failed to implement adequate security measures, resulting in personal data in the form of 12,000 records belonging to 3,000 workers being publicly accessible without requiring authentication. The inadequacy of the security measures resulted in compromised confidentiality and security of the processing in this particular case.

In July 2022, as part of its efforts to mitigate the impact of increasing industrial action across the country, the Government changed the law and lifted the decades-long ban on employment businesses supplying temporary workers to cover for striking workers.

Tutor platforms are currently being targeted for inspections by the Employment Agency Standards Inspectorate (EASI), the regulator responsible for ensuring compliance with the private recruitment industry regulatory regime. Tutor platforms not yet in the EASI's sights should take heed.
