William Stewart

William is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution department, specialising in commercial litigation and international arbitration.

Will has acted in court proceedings before the English High Court and DIFC Courts and has worked on institutional arbitration proceedings under the ICC, DIAC and arbitrateAD Rules. He acts on disputes across a broad range of sectors, with a particular focus on construction, aviation and hospitality.

His recent experience has included urgent interim relief applications, asset preservation and repossession strategy, and complex contractual disputes.

Will is an English-qualified solicitor and is registered as a legal consultant with the Dubai Legal Affairs Department.

Prior to joining Mishcon, he trained and qualified at an international law firm, working in London, Dubai and Singapore.

Key Experience

• Assisting with urgent and strategic enforcement and debt recovery measures, including a worldwide freezing order before the DIFC Courts, following the non-payment of sums due under bunker supply contracts.
• Assisting with DIFC Court proceedings on behalf of a Swiss bank involving a high-value defaulted loan facility, worldwide freezing relief, asset disclosure and contempt proceedings.
• Acting for a specialist international engineering contractor in a construction arbitration arising out of defective works performed in Abu Dhabi.
• Assisting on a multi-million-dollar arbitration administered by the ICC between a luxury international hotel operator and owner, arising out of allegations of repudiatory breach of hotel management agreements in Africa.
• Acting for a lessor in a high-value, multi-jurisdictional aircraft leasing dispute between the lessor's SPV subsidiaries and an Asian airline, involving a DIFC proprietary injunction application and contemplated English court proceedings.
• Representing the claimant in the Technology and Construction Court in London against an architect, seeking to recover losses from remedial works undertaken as a result of fire safety defects identified at a student accommodation block.
• Advising an international firm of architects on disputes relating to the discontinuation of architectural services for the design of a tower in Cambodia, and in relation to the design of a luxury residential villa in Kuwait, based on the FIDIC White Book.
