Personal Profile

Lydia Boateng is an Associate in the Competition Group in the Innovation Department.

Lydia has experience of high-value commercial disputes and competition litigation, most notably she has experience of the UK collective action regime in the Competition Appeal Tribunal.

Prior to qualifying into the Competition Group, Lydia previously acted for an international telecommunications company in a high-value dispute and advised on real estate tax matters. Lydia was also seconded to Global Media & Entertainment where she advised on various commercial, intellectual property and brand protection matters.

Lydia also provides pro-bono advice with the Royal Courts of Justice Advice Bureau and represented pro-bono the Project for the Registration of Children as British Citizens ("PRCBC") in its judicial review against the Home Office's fee for registering children as British citizens, which went to the Supreme Court.

Key Experience

  • Acting on behalf of class representative Justin Le Patourel in a £600-million opt-out collective action against BT.
  • Acting on numerous interchange fee claims against Visa and MasterCard in the High Court and Competition Appeal Tribunal on behalf of retail clients.
  • Acting on behalf of one of eight defendants in an unlawful collusion claim in the telecommunications industry.
  • Advising on brand protection matters and commercial contracts for a major media and entertainment company.
