Welcome to the Autumn/Winter 2020 edition of Brand Matters.

With the end of the Brexit transition period now being counted in days rather than months, our Checklist for Brands highlights all of the key steps for brand owners to consider in relation to their portfolios, both before 1 January 2021 and beyond. We have various Brexit sessions running as part of the Mishcon Academy Digital Sessions programme that are available via our Brexit hub. These include our recent podcast on Brands, and a series of webinars, including on Trade and Data Protection. The next session is a Mishcon Academy Digital Session on Brands on 7 December and we would be delighted if you could join us.

Away from Brexit, this edition focuses on a number of recent developments relating to advertising and social media, together with some interesting trade mark decisions. Two significant fines from the UK's Information Commissioner, whilst significantly reduced from the fines proposed last Summer, have also shed considerable light on how the UK regulator will deal with data breaches under GDPR.

We are part way through another lockdown in the UK and our team got together at the start of it with a virtual event kindly hosted by our longstanding client Black Cow, who produce award winning vodka and cheese. Following a similar theme, in this edition I am sharing a delightful Jazz Shapers with La Fromagerie, a famous cheese shop in London. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed our tasting.

Please do get in touch if you have any comments or wish to discuss any of the issues raised in more detail.
