Mishcon de Reya's esports Group has advised Alex 'ALEX' McMeekin, one of the world's most talented Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) players, on his move to US giants Cloud9 from the French Team Vitality. The move is part of an ambitious project by the US professional esports organisation to build a world-leading CS roster.
Professional gamer, Alex 'ALEX' McMeekin said: "I am very grateful for the help provided by Tom Murray and the team at Mishcon. I chose to work with Mishcon as my advisors and negotiators due to their extensive experience with other sports professionals which translated well into esports. It is essential that esports players take professional advice on the agreements they sign to ensure they understand the risks, benefits and liabilities. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the services of Mishcon to other esports players."
Tom Murray, Associate in the esports Group, who led the transaction added: "Borrowing from the experience of our multi-lingual Sports Group advising professional athletes in complex cross-jurisdictional transactions allowed us to secure a strong package for Alex who is one of the most exciting in-game leaders of his generation. This is one of the biggest ever moves for a British CS player and demonstrates the strength of our esports Group. The move also illustrates the growing professionalisation of the esports industry. Professional gamers are now rightfully recognising the value they bring to organisations, both as players and as brands, and are doing the right thing in engaging experienced lawyers to secure their future."
Tom headed the Mishcon esports Group team which included Lewis Cohen and Max Nicolaides.
