Antonia Felix and Alex Brereton on separating parents and schooling issues for Spear’s

Posted on 5 January 2022

Partner Antonia Felix and Associate Alex Brereton recently authored an article in Spear’s on what separating parents should consider regarding their children’s schooling.

In the piece, Antonia and Alex respond to five of the most asked questions separating parents should consider to ensure that their children’s educational development and well-being at school is not negatively impacted.

Among the questions, Antonia and Alex examine how divorcing parents should communicate news of separation to their children's schools, practical actions that schools can take to ensure support for children is put in place and how possible disputes over moving schools and payment of school fees can be resolved.

They write: “In most circumstances, both parents will have joint ‘parental responsibility’ for their child. This means key decisions regarding a child’s life, such as the school they attend, need to be decided jointly.”
