Filipe is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution department with more than 18 years' litigation experience, spanning private practice, local government and large-scale cross-border group claims. He specialises in Brazilian litigation and its interface with the London legal market and has led the legal strategy of some of the largest cross-border ESG group actions brought against multinational corporations for environmental and human rights harm caused by their overseas operations. He takes a strategic, cross-jurisdictional approach to litigation, aligning Brazilian civil, environmental, constitutional and procedural law with the requirements of English, Dutch and German courts to build coherent, well-supported cases.
Filipe has advised corporate clients, funders and public authorities on a broad range of contentious matters, providing strategic advice from pleadings through to hearings and settlement negotiations. He also leaded major commercial negotiations for high profile executives.
His clients have spanned a wide range of industries and sectors, including mining, aluminium and petrochemicals, real estate and retail, healthcare, technology, telecommunications and local government, as well as the litigation funders and international counsel teams he works alongside on cross-border matters.
Filipe also has served as an Assistant Professor of Civil Procedure at the Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), lecturing, preparing course content and marking examinations.
