Former Spanish Minister and EY Global Partner Juan Costa Climent joins Mishcon de Reya

Mishcon de Reya has today announced that leading international lawyer, former Spanish Government Minister and EY Global Leader for Climate Change and Sustainability, Juan Costa Climent, has joined Mishcon Purpose, enhancing the law firm’s growing global sustainability competencies.

Juan joins the firm as Sustainability Policy Director in its dedicated sustainability business Mishcon Purpose. A lawyer and market leading international expert in sustainability and climate change, Juan Costa’s career spans public service and private practice. He specialises in advising businesses and governments on how to grow value through proactive engagement in the transition to a stakeholder-led market economy.

He will combine his role as an international lawyer at the firm with his position as senior advisor to international companies, a member of philanthropic institutions and a lecturer at universities.

Juan Costa is an international thought leader. He has published several books including La Revolución Imparable: One Planet, One Economy and Government (Espasa 2010) and Multicapitalismo (Deusto 2021). 

Prior to joining Mishcon de Reya, Juan Costa held the positions of EY Global Leader for Climate Change and Sustainability Services and member of the Global Assurance Leadership Team from 2010 to 2020. Before that he led EY Abogados Spain as President.

Juan Costa has also held different responsibilities in the public sector. From 1996 to 2005 he served as Minister of State for Finance, Secretary of State for Trade, Minister for Science, Technology and Industry in Spain, and as a visiting scholar at the IMF.
