When Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho missed their spot-kick in England's Euro 2020 loss to Italy, it unleashed a wave of racist abuse and hatred. Unfortunately this was just one example of a series of racist incidents which has marred football for many years.
In this session, we explore the practical, legal and political measures taken by players, clubs, politicians, law enforcement, charities and others to stamp out racism from the sport and ask: are these measures effective and what else needs to be done?
We will be joined by industry experts: Sanjay Bhandari (Chair - Kick It Out), Lungi Macebo (Chief Operating Officer - Birmingham City FC and Women in Football board member), Michael Frost (Managing Associate - Mishcon de Reya) and Joe Ansbro (a former Scottish international professional rugby union player). This session will be hosted by Bethia Green (Trainee Solicitor - Mishcon de Reya)
