Emma Willing, Partner in Mishcon de Reya’s Family group, has been quoted in a Glamour Magazine article discussing how to identify financial abuse from a partner.
Currently, one in six women in the UK has experienced financial abuse by a current or former partner. However, in contrast to domestic abuse, it can go unnoticed as it can be difficult to identify.
In the piece, Emma examines the red flags to look out for that might indicate that it is taking place. These include restricting access to money, credit cards and resources.
Emma commented: “If taking legal advice, it is wise to ensure that the perpetrator isn't made aware of this until the appropriate time. It may be possible to obtain a protective injunction from the court. If, however, you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call the police on 999.”
