Event Report: Corporate Ownership: Transparency v Privacy

At the end of last year the European Parliament announced that terms had been agreed for the fourth anti-money laundering directive, which will likely require central beneficial ownership registers to be maintained for companies and private registers to be maintained for trusts. In the UK, the Small Business Enterprise and Employment Bill, which lays out the Government's plans for a public register of beneficial ownership, is making its way through the House of Lords. The proposals are part of a package of measures aimed at increasing transparency of ownership of UK corporates.

In late 2014 Mishcon de Reya hosted its own debate, a "Question Time"-style panel discussion: "Corporate Ownership: Transparency v Privacy". The event was attended by 70 interested businesses, charities and advisers.

We have prepared a detailed report of the debate with results of the evening's poll votes. If you would like to read the report, please click the link below.
