Amanda Gray looks at the growth of art e-commerce and highlights a number of issues for fine arts specialists to consider before developing an online business.

Art e-commerce appears to be growing at an expeditious rate and is here to stay. To the purchaser, it is convenient, quick and potentially less daunting than buying in the auction room or in a gallery. Art or antiques can now be purchased at the click of a button. To the gallery, auctioneer, or selling agent it is a global shop front; an opportunity to offer works for sale to a wider audience with limited costs and with the potential for increased profit margins.
