Tanay Vankayalapati is an Associate in the Competition Group in the Innovation department.
Tanay has experience of high-value, multi-party commercial disputes, including competition damages claims and collective proceedings in the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal. He has also acted on highly publicised judicial review proceedings in the Administrative Court, urgent injunctive relief applications and complex claims involving digital assets.
Tanay also has experience of competition advisory work including merger control and foreign direct investment.
Tanay is an active member of the firm's Social Mobility Committee. He has organised and delivered talks at events focussed on widening access to the legal profession, working in partnership with leading external organisations such as the Bright Network, the Sutton Trust and Rare Recruitment.

- Acting for Justin Le Patourel, the class representative, in a £600 million opt-out collective action brought against British Telecom in the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
- Advising retailers Asda, Curry's, Iceland, John Lewis, Sainsbury's and Wilko in relation to claims against the European Trucks Cartelists.
- Acting on interchange fee claims against Visa and Mastercard in the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
- Advised on merger control and foreign direct investment matters in an acquisition in a sensitive industry, involving over thirty jurisdictions.
- Acting for 51 institutional investors in a judicial review of provisions in the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act, and a related claim for compensation against the UK in the European Court of Human Rights.
- Advising a claimant in relation to a sophisticated crypto-asset fraud, which involved successfully obtaining an urgent worldwide freezing order in the High Court.
- Advising a shareholder of a media-related business in regard to threatened and existing litigation, as well as complaints to a UK public body.
- Advising for an international company operating in a sensitive sector in a procurement dispute with a UK government department.
- Acting for a leading manufacturer in a breach of contract claim against their suppliers, involving anticipated arbitration proceedings.
- Acting for a UK company on a complex commercial dispute involving allegations of corporate bribery.
