Amber Courtier

Amber is an Associate in the Reputation Protection and Crisis Management team, in the Mishcon Private department.

Amber is a litigator with experience in commercial, defamation, misuse of private information, data protection, blackmail, and harassment matters. She has successfully acted for clients in the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court.

Amber regularly acts for clients in pre- and post-publication scenarios in response to both national and international press enquiries and publications. Her practice often involves helping clients in times of crisis – such as mitigating against adverse media coverage, protecting against intrusions into private life, which increasingly takes place online as well as in traditional media, and engaging with search engines or due diligence databases to help clients exercise their data protection rights in respect of inaccurate, historic and/or unlawful content.

Amber has been recognised as a 'Key Lawyer' by The Legal 500.

Key Experience

• Engaging with media pre- and post-publication, frequently preventing publication of damaging and inaccurate stories and securing appropriate removals, corrections, and apologies.
• Advising clients who have been subject to coordinated smear campaigns across multiple publications and jurisdictions.
• Acting for clients who are the subject of blackmail and/or harassment.
• Engaging with search engines and compliance databases to help clients exercise their data protection rights and obtain the de-listing and takedown of inaccurate, historic and/or unlawful content.
• Acting in defamation proceedings from the initial stage of issuing the claim through to a successful result at the Supreme Court.
• Advising in a high-profile employment dispute relating to whistleblowing.
