International surrogacy and law reform: Antonia Felix and Alice Mantle for ThoughtLeaders4 HNW Divorce

Antonia Felix and Alice Mantle were featured in ThoughtLeaders4 HNW Divorce discussing international surrogacy journeys and the Law Commission's recent recommendations.

Following statutory amendments, in 2010 it became possible for same sex and unmarried couples to apply for Parental Orders. In 2019, single applicants could apply for Parental Orders (this followed a declaration of incompatibility with the Human Rights Act). However, same-sex, unmarried or single parent surrogacy is not universally permitted and anyone considering international surrogacy options should look carefully at the law in the relevant foreign jurisdiction.

Antonia Felix and Alice Mantle from the Surrogacy and Modern Families group look at why many intended parents choose international surrogacy journeys over other options and the key considerations to be weighed up.
