The Glass Cliff: Are women and minority ethnic group leaders held to a higher standard?

DateTimeIn-Person

Women and ethnic minority professionals are increasingly visible at the top; however, both are disproportionately appointed to senior roles during times of crisis, volatility or reputational risk. This phenomenon, known as "The Glass Cliff", sees women and ethnic minority professionals in positions of heightened exposure, where the margin for error is slim, the scrutiny intense and the risk of failure and blame are high.

In conjunction with CM Murray and of the International Forum of Senior Executive Advisers (IFSEA), Mishcon de Reya is hosting a panel event on Wednesday 25 February to examine leadership trajectories, and how trust, accountability and visibility may operate differently for women executives and executives from ethnic minority groups in high-stakes environments, compared to their peers.

The panel will explore the legal, cultural and reputational implications of unequal treatment of women and members of ethnic minorities in leadership roles - and the role advisers can play in recognising, challenging and dismantling these patterns.

This event is open to IFSEA members and non-members. As space is limited, we invite you to register your place as soon as possible.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with any queries.

Topics will include:

  • The mechanics and consequences of the "The Glass Cliff"
  • How women executives and executives from minority ethnic groups are treated differently in the media when they have made a mistake, and what that means for PR strategy
  • Legal and governance considerations for organisations
  • Strategies for building inclusive leadership cultures and resilient leadership tools
  • How advisers can support resilient leadership, mitigate exposure, and foster cultures of accountability at the top
