Trustees in the Arts

The day will begin with an opening address by Amanda Gray (Partner, Art Law at Mishcon de Reya) and a keynote address from Victoria Siddall (Board Director, Frieze, Co-founder and trustee of the Gallery Climate Coalition and Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery, Studio Voltaire and Ampersand Foundation). 

The event will be looking at the key issues that trustees boards of arts organisations are grappling with in 2024, including sustainability, diversity, the ethics of funding, deaccessioning requests, and insolvency. The event will be attended both by trustees of arts organisations (including all creative industries - visual arts and beyond), aspiring trustees, and professional advisers to trustees.

Panel sessions

Panel 1: Crisis and Change will be chaired by Rosanna Cundall (Partner and Consultant, Saxton Bampfylde and Trustee of Hospital Rooms). Panellists will include Matthew Slotover (Co-founder of Frieze, trustee of Sadlers Wells, the Arts Foundation, the Walpole Group and Murmur and Chair of Turner Contemporary), Yasmin Khan (Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at Tate and Trustee of Turner Contemporary), Shoair Mavlian (Director, the Photographers' Gallery) and Leslie Ramos (Co-founder, the Twentieth). 

Panel 2: Current Challenges for Boards will be chaired by Chris Willis Pickup (Partner, Charities, Social Ventures and Philanthropy at Mishcon de Reya). Panellists will include Colin Hardman (Partner, Evelyn Partners), Dr Charlotte Joy (Non-Executive Director, UK National Commission for UNESCO Board of Directors), Michèle Ruo Yi Landolt (Director, Asymmetry Art Foundation) and Natalie Highwood (Managing Director, Julie's Bicycle).

Attendees will receive reading materials covering the basics of the frameworks and practical pointers on the role of a trustee in advance of the lively discussions on the day of the seminar.
