In conversation with Labour MP Jess Phillips

DateTimeOnline

Jess has been the MP for Birmingham Yardley since 2015. A member of the Labour Party, she has been Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding in the Opposition frontbench since 2020. Jess was a candidate for Labour leader in the 2020 leadership election but withdrew from the later stages of the contest.

Jess will be discussing her book Everything You Really Need to Know About Politics: My Life as an MP. From the sublime to the ridiculous, the inner workings of Westminster are often a mystery to an outsider. In the book, Jess lifts the lid on the systems and rules that govern us all and in her own inimitable style, shows us what's really going on in British politics.  Jess draws on her tenure as an MP and explains the process of running for government; changing a law; serving her constituents; wrangling with her fellow MPs and so much more.

This event will be hosted by Managing Associate and Head of the Politics and Law Group, Katy Colton.
