Julia Gillard is a former politician who served as the 27th Prime Minister of Australia. Ten years ago, Julia stood up in Parliament and made an impassioned stand against misogyny and sexism.
In the decade since, we’ve seen the rise of the global #MeToo movement, the ‘No More Page 3’ campaign, and the laws of succession to the British throne altered to replace male-preference primogeniture with absolute primogeniture.
Yet despite some progress, misogynist tropes still abound and are particularly evident in attitudes towards women in positions of authority - as the first and only female Australian Prime Minister can well testify.
Since leaving office, Julia has dedicated her time to advocacy, governance roles and writing. Julia is the founder and Chair of the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership at King's College London and Chair of Wellcome, a global charitable foundation that supports science to solve urgent worldwide health challenges.
In this session, Julia will be discussing her new book, Not Now, Not Ever: Ten years on from the misogyny speech.
Julia will be interviewed by MP Stella Creasy.
