Jarvis Cocker is a true rock and roll star. As the founder, frontman, lyricist and sole consistent member of the band Pulp, he became a figurehead of the Britpop genre of the mid-1990s.
Following Pulp's hiatus, Jarvis has pursued a solo career and for seven years he presented the BBC Radio 6 Music show Jarvis Cocker's Sunday Service. More recently he soundtracked the BBC show This Is Going To Hurt and the Wes Anderson film The French Dispatch, with his band Jarv Is.
In this session, Jarvis will be discussing his new book Good Pop, Bad Pop.
The book details a loft clear-out where Jarvis found a jumble of objects that catalogued his story. From a Gold Star polycotton shirt to a pack of Wrigley's Extra, these objects are hard evidence of Jarvis's unique life, Pulp and 20th-century pop culture.
The accumulated debris of a lifetime reveal his creative process - writing and musicianship, performance and ambition, style and stagecraft.
This is not a life story. It's a loft story.
