In our third interview for Creators + Collectors, we are delighted to speak with Canadian artist Kristina Chan about her body of work "Habitable Climes", the second edition of the Sunderland Collection Art Programme. The artworks drew inspiration from various maps in the Collection, including in particular the pair of rare nineteenth-century “Blue China” terrestrial and celestial wall maps. Recently exhibited at Canada House, London, Kristina’s works explored “the systems and scales we apply to the world”, and referenced two journeys that Kristina made to the Arctic Circle via the Svalbard Channel and the Nevada Desert. Using the medium of photography and printmaking, Kristina's practice explores mark-making, truth, memory and time.
