Restaurants, rugby teams and hotels join business interruption case against Allianz

Posted on 2 August 2023

In May 2022, Mishcon de Reya launched a group action case for Covid-related business interruption claims. More than 30 businesses have now joined, including the restaurant chains Bone Daddies, Burger and Lobster, Hawksmoor, Blacklock, Bone Daddies and Sketch, Premiership rugby teams, and hotels, including Fairview.

Partner Richard Leedham, who along with Partner Sonia Campbell, is leading the case, explained to the Insurance Post that these claimants are seeking payouts, "under a denial of access clause in their policies, covering business interruption as a “direct result” of “an incident likely to endanger human life or property” within a mile of the insured premises, or of access or use of the premises being “prevented or hindered by any policing authority”."
