Mishcon trainee wins top law awards

Posted on 24 January 2012

Trainee Katy Colton has scooped two of the major law student awards in the country. Katy, aged 25, has won both the British Academy of Forensic Sciences Legal Prize and the DLA Award, presented by law firm DLA Piper.

The British Academy of Forensic Sciences is awarded to the student obtaining the highest mark in the litigation paper of the Legal Practice Course (LPC) across The College of Law’s eight nationwide centres. The DLA Award is for the student with the highest combined mark in the business and commercial law papers at the College’s Manchester centre.

These latest accolades follow Katy’s success in the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) the previous year for which she was awarded six prizes, including one for gaining the top overall mark across all College of Law centres. Katy, originally from Cheadle near Stockport, graduated from the University of Leeds in 2009 with a first class honours degree in Politics and Parliamentary Studies.

Katy began her two-year training contract in August. She is currently a first year trainee in our Private department, specialising in media law, and is due to qualify in September 2013.
