Mishcon de Reya hires top asset-based lending lawyer

Posted on 19 July 2022

Mishcon de Reya has appointed asset-based lending lawyer Steven Geerlings as a Partner in its London office. He joined the firm on 18 July, having left Dentons earlier this year, and has become the 11th Partner hire of 2022.

Steven has over 25 years of experience in banking and securities law, acquisition finance and commercial lending. He advises on cross-border commercial and acquisition finance transactions and on insolvency issues for major asset-based lenders in the UK, the US and various European markets.

Steven has an in-depth knowledge of fintech developments and serves as a member of the Steering Committee of the global web-based fintech platform World of Open Account (WOA).

Registered at the bars of Amsterdam and London, he is a native Dutch speaker and is fluent in English, Italian, French and German. His experience and network across the US and Europe mean he is well-placed to advise on deals with an international element.

Nick Strutt, Head of Finance at Mishcon de Reya, said: "Steven's appointment bolsters our current finance offering, and the international nature of his practice ensures we can continue to support our clients across numerous jurisdictions. We are delighted to have him join the team."

Steven added: "Mishcon de Reya is an impressive firm with a top-notch international client roster, and shares a deep commitment to client care and technical excellence. I'm excited to be working with the Finance team to further expand the firm's finance capabilities."

Steven held a number of in-house positions before coming back into private practice in London where he worked at Partner level with various international firms since 2004.
