Derval is a Partner and Member of the Finance and Banking Group. He specialises in complex banking litigation and has experience of major commercial and banking cases in English and foreign courts. Derval has been involved in complex litigation involving rights in respect of loan notes, swaps, SIV-lite structures, syndicated loans and interbank money market debt.

Derval has considerable expertise in property acquisition finance disputes with a major part of his practice focused on representing borrowers and guarantors involved in disputes with lenders. Derval has specialist knowledge of NAMA-related matters and has succeeded both in keeping borrowers out of NAMA and in reversing borrowers' loans out of NAMA after they have been acquired by it.

Advising OJSC URALSIB BANK in High Court proceedings involving rights attaching to US$100 million in loan participation notes.
Acting for an account holder in a breach of mandate/contract/negligence action against a leading retail bank.
Acting for various borrowers involved in disputes with lenders concerning their loan obligations.
Acting for the collateral advisor and collateral manager of a SIV-lite investment fund in respect of English law governed proceedings brought in New York by mezzanine capital note holders in the fund.
Acting for a Cypriot company in respect of a breach by a counterparty of the terms of an ISDA-governed option agreement.
Acting for a Nevis incorporated hedge fund manager in relation to a derivative claim, and other claims, brought against it in the Chancery Division of the High Court.
Acting for a life assurance company in Commercial Court proceedings against its former auditors and some of its former directors.
Acting for a leading investment bank in Commercial Court proceedings regarding a debt arising out of a transaction on the interbank money market.
Acting for a leading investment bank in relation to the criminal and civil issues arising out of the theft of a substantial sum of money by one of the bank’s employees.
