The Equality Act

The Equality Act 2010 comes into force on 1st October 2010.

On 28th September 2010, our Employment Department hosted a breakfast seminar "Managing employees after the Equality Act 2010", which aimed to help employers understand how the Act changes to previous discrimination laws.

Greg Campbell and Will Winch gave an overview of the main provisions of the Act and, using practical case studies, explored:

  • How the Equality Act changes the current discrimination laws (and what remains the same)
  • The new form of discrimination "arising in consequence of" a disability
  • Associative discrimination and flexible working requests
  • Recruitment and medical questionnaires
  • Holiday pay and sickness
  • PHI
