An overview of the first year as the Financial Conduct Authority and priorities for 2014 with Clive Adamson

Delegates heard from Clive Adamson, Director of Supervision at the Financial Conduct Authority who gave an overview of the first year of the FCA and its priorities for 2014. Mr Adamson spoke about the FCA's move towards a pre-emptive, forward looking approach to regulation and we also heard more detail about the FCA's recently published Risk Outlook and Business Plan for2014. Mr Adamson then took questions covering a broad range of areas including the use of attestations, the Senior Persons Regime and the FCA's relationship with overseas regulators.

Financial Crime - SFO Enforcement Priorities for 2014

With David Green QC, Director of the Serious Fraud Office. David led a lively discussion on a range of issues, including domestic and overseas bribery and corruption, corporate self-reporting, the SFO's intelligence capabilities, Deferred Prosecution Agreements and the potential liability of senior officers of corporations.

Ensuring the conduct of your board is appropriate in the new regulatory climate

The guest speaker was John Sutherland, senior adviser at the PRA and an advisor to the Parliamentary Commission on Banking Standards. The discussion focussed particularly on the regulators' responses to the Parliamentary Commission report on Banking Standards that was expected at the end of September, and legislation likely to follow shortly afterwards.
