The law relating to unlawful discrimination in Great Britain has evolved over the last 40 years. Until October 2010, it was to be found in a number of different Acts and Regulations.
The Equality Act 2010 is the latest step in the evolution of discrimination legislation. It contains a number of new concepts, but primarily seeks to pull all the existing legislation into one place, consolidating and harmonising the legislation. The majority of the Equality Act comes into force on 1 October 2010.
