Finance & Banking Disputes Partner Genevieve Quierin was interviewed about shareholder actions and competition claims by Vannin Capital for its publication "Women in Focus". In the feature, Gen discusses the increasing interest in Group Litigation Orders (GLOs) in the UK market, as well as the role played by third party funders in bringing these claims.
She says: "While there has not been a dramatic increase in GLOs since their introduction, there does appear to have been a growth in group actions more generally. This is due in no small part to the availability of third party litigation funding from funders such as Vannin Capital, which not only means that consumer class actions can be brought in this jurisdiction, but that corporate claimants can use litigation as a means of revenue generation."
Gen is currently bringing competition claims for the recovery of interchange fees against Visa and MasterCard on behalf of approximately 460 hotels throughout Europe, over 700 franchisees of a major global fast food chain and approximately 15 UK household name retailers.
