Jo Rickards, a Partner in Mishcon de Reya's Business Crime Group, is a panellist at the 19th Annual New York Conference on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
The conference, being held at New York's InterContinental Times Square from 20-21 April 2017, will look at complex FCPA challenges as well as strategic and interrelated issues. Jo's panel session takes place at 5:45pm on the opening day, and covers corruption risks outside of the FCPA post-FIFA and how to mitigate commercial bribery and related risks. Her fellow panellists include: Evan Norris, former Director of the EDNY FIFA Task Force within the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York; Jonathan Rusch, Senior Vice President and Head of Anti-Bribery and Corruption Governance at Wells Fargo; Erin Sloane, Partner at WilmerHale; and Patricia Etzold, Forensic Science Partner at PwC LLP.
The five speakers will cover a range of topics including compliance enhancements to address commercial bribery risks, lessons learned from FIFA on the use of other US statutes to prosecute corruption, how anti-corruption departments are interfacing with the government relations group to address domestic bribery risks, managing pay-to-play issues, how the UK is investigating suspected commercial bribery violations, and recent trends in SFO enforcement.
Jo, who joined Mishcon in February 2017, is an expert in white collar crime, representing individuals and corporate clients embroiled in corruption, fraud and money laundering, including those being investigated by the SFO, FCA, Competition and Markets Authority and HM Revenue & Customs. She has been involved in all the major SFO investigations since the Office was created.
