Mishcon de Reya has today announced the appointment of Richard Cannon as a Partner in its Business Crime Group. Richard joins the firm from boutique criminal law firm Janes Solicitors on 5 October 2016.
A partner at Janes for 16 years, Richard built his reputation predominantly in the defence of serious and complex fraud. He has particular expertise in cases relating to direct tax frauds, Ponzi frauds and matters of alleged bribery and corruption for both private and corporate clients. He is experienced in high profile cases and dealing with the media interest that comes with them, for example in the successful defence of the Grillo sisters and a case involving international espionage.
Mishcon de Reya's Business Crime Group was set up in 2014 and now has seven lawyers, including two Partners.
Commenting on Richard's appointment, Alison Levitt QC, Head of the Business Crime Group, said: "Richard brings to the firm a wealth of experience and expertise in criminal defence litigation at the top level, and is a major addition to our team’s formidable strength in informing strategy in matters of both defence and prosecution.
"The group's unique insight allows us to offer a comprehensive but streamlined approach for clients who may find themselves with a range of problems involving criminal law issues in the UK and in connection with other jurisdictions. As well as offering a comprehensive and strategic defence service, we can provide advice and help in a range of other areas including extradition, judicial review, private prosecutions and the conduct of investigations."
