Diversity in the Judiciary: Mishcon hosts Cityparents event

On 5 February, Mishcon de Reya hosted a Cityparents event on diversity in the Judiciary, with guest speaker The Rt Hon Lady Justice Hallett. Cityparents is a network for working parents in City professions from across a number of sectors with a shared interest with balancing a family life with a progressive career. It has over 8,000 members in London, including Mishcon de Reya.

In 1998 Lady Justice Hallett became the first woman to chair the Bar Council and is the fifth woman to sit as judge in the Court of Appeal. In 2009 she was chosen to act as coroner in the inquest into the deaths of 52 people in the London bombings of 7 July 2005 and was applauded for her compassionate handling of the cases. Lady Hallett has been tasked with leading an initiative to attract more lawyers and legal academics from non-traditional backgrounds to sit in the High Court in London. At the event she spoke passionately about her career in law as a woman and working mother, and the challenges she faced when trying to balance a family and successful legal career.

Mishcon de Reya Partner and Chair of Mishcon's Diversity & Inclusion Committee Ramona Mehta, who introduced Lady Hallett on the day, commented: "Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of Mishcon de Reya's core values. Our membership with Cityparents is one reflection of this, giving us the opportunity to engage and share experiences with other working parents from across the City. How we can better support our colleagues with juggling multiple commitments alongside rewarding careers is an ongoing dialogue within our firm. I hope we can host more events like this in the future."
