Commercial and Data Protection Partner in the Intellectual Property Group Adam Rose was quoted in The Telegraph after news broke that Europe's competition watchdog has launched an antitrust investigation into Amazon.
The investigation will look into both Amazon's standard contracts with marketplace sellers, and the role of data in choosing winners of the "buy box" – which allows buyers to add items from a specific retailer into their shopping carts.
Adam sad, "Dominance is fine, but abuse is not. Defining what Amazon is actually doing, and then defining if that is unfairly skewing the market in its favour, is not going to be easy, but the figures at stake are so big that the Commission will invest heavily in trying to get to the bottom of the story."
